DEGREE SHOW PROJECT
My project was influenced by my dissertation topic regarding facial hair and the beard and the idea that the addition of something can change someone’s look completely. My gender-neutral accessory collection is inspired by organic forms and growth within nature and aims to improve wellbeing by evoking optimism through use of a vibrant colour palette and bold, abstract shapes. Enhanced Existence is about making a statement and allowing the wearer to feel comfortable, confident and powerful. Daring to be different.
My Concept ‘Fresh Energy’ is a celebration of healthy and sustainable living. My visual research is inspired by the refreshing, vibrant colours and abstract shapes within fruit which influenced my decision to create a sustainable beachwear collection. This application lent itself nicely to my colour palette which is full of greens, yellows and reds; perfect for summer and for provoking optimism and wellbeing. My intention was to create a collection of samples with the ability to empower young women and make them feel good about themselves.
LIVE BRIEF
Sensory Vision is targeted towards the visually impaired and aims to trigger the senses. With a focus on tactility, colour and scent, our samples aim to relax and calm the user and improve their focus. The live brief allowed us to push our design skills alongside experimentation as we trialled different ways of incorporating scent into our samples. Dried lavender, herbal sprays and essential oils all made their way into our collection via screen printing, dyeing, and trapping. It was a wholesome and rewarding experience as we were able to witness the joy and excitement that our work brought to the visually impaired in an exhibition post hand-in.
Inspired by the goddess of the hunt, Artemis, I decided to create a fashion collection inspired by the wild. Abstract shapes found in nature, warm colours and mark making were essential in order to convey the fierce, powerful mood of my concept along with its key words: protests, survival, tribal, freedom and movement. Visual research and colour were key to my collection as I took the illustrative approach to convey the journey women have come on in terms of equality and the emotions and the struggles we have faced. Wild liberation is about empowerment, freedom and acceptance.
SDG GROUP PROJECT
Dynamic Innovation focuses on the sustainability development goal 3, good health and wellbeing. Taking inspiration from the colours, lights and movement captured in our photographs, we aimed to create a fun yet calming collection which would mimic the mood of a sensory room . I used materials and colours to reflect movement and beading to add different variation of light intensity. Our intention was to create a collection of samples suitable for a calming sensory room for children, that they might be able to use as a safe space to relax and calm down.
I decided to focus my concept on the juxtaposition between the architectural, looming structures of the city and the bright, energetic mood that it embodies. The neon lights contrast with the darker, urban shades in my palette and the vibe it creates is both quirky yet controlled. This concept was fun as it allowed me to explore a range of specialisms during my first year at uni with a big focus on structure and colour.
