Hi, my name is Laura and I am a  recent graduate from Nottingham Trent University.

I specialise in embroidery and am very materials-led for that reason. I have always enjoyed coming up with new ways to do things and this is reflected through my use of unconventional materials and mixed-media approach to design . My personal design fundamentals revolve around colour, tactility and wellbeing.

Wellbeing has made its way into each of my projects one way or another which has led me to realise the importance of helping others through textiles and how significant that is to me as a designer. The live 'MYSIGHT' project that I partook in during my second year at NTU was a pivotal moment for me as it helped me to understand what I wanted from my career. The relationship that my group and I formed with the users at Mysight Nottingham was special and pushed us to work in a completely different way. Considering their personal needs and requirements as well as the senses beyond vision enforced my interest in tactility and in materials.

Colour is also very important to me because it can completely transform my mood and productivity levels ; I want to reflect this through my work and evoke optimism through the use of  vibrant yet refined colour palettes that will make people feel good. I enjoy craft and the personal element that hand-made textiles can have on its wearer/audience, as well as the ability to manipulate and change it.

I am currently working on a collection of embellished bespoke accessories which are all made to order. I am currently focusing on headbands however I hope to introduce a collection of embellished earrings very soon which will be available via dm on my Instagram.
